Summer Walker has sued Love Renaissance (LVRN), alleging financial misconduct and seeking to invalidate her contract with the independent label and management company.
Walker signed with LVRN on September 15, 2017, at age 19. The company later formed a joint venture with Interscope Records.
Her complaint alleges that LVRN redirected money allocated to her recording, touring, marketing and merchandising budgets to pay excessive company expenses.
Walker also alleges that LVRN sold merchandise featuring her name and likeness through retail websites, including Amazon, without giving her a share of the proceeds.
She further alleges that the company ran a YouTube page under her name without her knowledge and withheld the revenue it earned.
The lawsuit alleges:
- Breach of fiduciary duty
- Breach of contract
- Fraudulent concealment
Walker wants the court to declare her 2017 agreement “void and unenforceable.” She is also seeking compensatory and punitive damages, with the amounts to be determined by the court.
Separately, Walker is invoking California’s seven-year rule to seek release from her recording contract with Interscope.
Interscope, a Universal Music Group subsidiary, has reportedly sued Walker for $50 million over albums it alleges she has not delivered.
