Suno and the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) have proposed a November 2 deadline for the MLC to respond in their subpoena dispute. The request for streaming data is tied to Suno’s defense in a copyright infringement lawsuit brought by Universal Music and Sony Music.
The presiding judge has not yet approved the proposed schedule, though the MLC has agreed to the deadline. No response had appeared on the docket at the time of the source article.
Suno says the data bears on its fair use and copyright misuse defenses. It seeks to examine whether AI audio on streaming services has caused the plaintiffs market harm, whether their licensing terms limit any financial impact, and whether their control over music catalogs affects how services offer or recommend lower-cost AI content.
The data request has been contested for much of 2026. Apple has moved to quash a separate Suno deposition subpoena. In a July email concerning the MLC’s potential production of data, counsel for Pandora told MLC assistant general counsel Dustin Kovacic that Pandora did not consent to any production containing its data.
