FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 21, 2026
Lagos, Nigeria / London, UK
InterSpace Distribution, a leading independent music distribution and aggregation platform, today announced the introduction of new mandatory metadata requirements for all releases submitted to its platform. Effective Monday, May 25, 2026, all artists and labels distributing through InterSpace will be required to disclose AI involvement in their releases and specify the country of recording.
What Is Changing
Starting May 25, 2026, all new release submissions on InterSpace Distribution must include the following information:
1. AI Use in Cover Image
Artists must indicate whether artificial intelligence was used in the creation or enhancement of the release cover image. If AI was used, they must specify:
- The extent of AI involvement (fully AI-generated, AI-enhanced, or AI-assisted)
- The AI platform or tool used (e.g. Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion)
2. AI Use in Music Audio Composition and Production
Artists must declare whether AI was used in the composition, production, or post-production of the music audio. If AI was used, they must specify:
- The degree of AI involvement in the production process
- The AI platform or tool used (e.g. Suno, Udio, AIVA, Soundraw, iZotope, Landr)
3. Country of Recording
All releases must now include the country in which the music was recorded. This applies to studio recordings, live recordings, and remotely produced tracks.
Why InterSpace Is Introducing These Requirements
The global music industry is rapidly evolving, and digital service providers (DSPs) — including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Boomplay — are increasingly demanding greater transparency around AI-generated and AI-assisted content. Several platforms have already introduced or announced policies requiring AI disclosure at the metadata level.
“Transparency is the foundation of trust in the music ecosystem,” said a spokesperson for InterSpace Distribution. “These new requirements protect our artists, our partners, and the integrity of the content we distribute globally. By collecting this data now, we ensure our artists are ahead of the curve as DSP requirements tighten.”
The country of recording requirement additionally supports compliance with neighbouring rights organisations, collective management organisations (CMOs), and international royalty collection bodies that use this data in rights administration and royalty distribution.
Who Is Affected
These requirements apply to:
- All new release submissions from May 25, 2026 onward
- All plan tiers — Free, Artist, Artist Pro, and Label plans
- Individual artists, bands, record labels, and content creators
Existing live releases are not retroactively affected by this policy at this time. However, artists are encouraged to voluntarily update their metadata where AI involvement occurred.
How to Comply
The new AI disclosure and country of recording fields will be available directly within the InterSpace Distribution submission dashboard from May 25, 2026. Artists submitting releases after this date will be prompted to complete these fields before submission can proceed. InterSpace Distribution will provide guidance resources and FAQs ahead of the launch date.
