Interscope has sued Summer Walker for more than $50 million after she sought to end her recording contract, putting her remaining obligations to the label in dispute.
Walker invoked California’s seven-year statute, which restricts how long personal services contracts can be enforced in the state.
The singer entered her original joint agreement with Interscope and LVRN, an Atlanta label and management company, in 2017.
The lawsuit challenges whether Walker can leave the agreement despite its contractual term. Other artists have previously used the same California statute to pursue early departures from long-running recording deals.
