MAIA Universe has announced new agreements with major music rightsholders, strategic investment and an enhanced operating model with the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS). The Stockholm- and London-based sync licensing platform is expanding the music available through its discovery engine, which adds around 10,000 tracks each week.

New publishing and recording agreements

The platform now has agreements with more than 200 labels and 90 publishing partners. Its latest partnerships cover both publishing and recording rights:

  • BMG: publishing and recordings.
  • Kobalt Music: publishing.
  • Warner Music Group: recordings.
  • Cooking Vinyl: recordings.

These agreements extend a partner network that already includes Warner Chappell, Sony Music Publishing and other major rightsholders.

Strategic investment and revenue forecast

MAIA Universe has also secured strategic investment from MxM, Bjorn Ulvaeus and the RMV team, led by Ludvig Andersson.

An analysis of Goldman Sachs’ 2025 Music in the Air report projects that commercial sync revenue will increase from $2.5 billion in 2026 to $3.9 billion in 2035.

Technology and licensing plans

David Wille, chief executive officer of MAIA Universe, said:

“Sync is one of the fastest-growing opportunities for songwriters and artists today. It offers both revenue and potential breakthrough moments that can transform careers. The velocity of sync requests has increased in line with demand. Intuitive technology is needed to ensure that human artists and songwriters can participate in this exciting, multifaceted, and lucrative space,”

Wille said the platform combines proprietary technology, for which patents are pending, with participation from major and independent rightsholders and MCPS, with the aim of simplifying and accelerating sync licensing for songwriters and artists.
