Interscope Geffen A&M (IGA) has named Michelle An president and chief creative officer and promoted Laura Carter and Ramon Alvarez-Smikle to co-presidents, Urban. The appointments expand An’s creative responsibilities and aim to coordinate artist development, marketing and digital operations across the company’s Urban division.
An will retain leadership of IGA Pop/Rock while taking on broader responsibility for helping artists develop their visual identities, storytelling, brands and long-term career strategies. She will report to John Janick, chairman and chief executive officer of Interscope Capitol.
Carter and Alvarez-Smikle will work closely with An to align four areas of IGA Urban’s work:
- Artists and repertoire (A&R)
- Marketing
- Digital strategy
- Audience development
Alvarez-Smikle will also oversee the development and expansion of digital systems and infrastructure for the full IGA roster, covering both Urban and Pop/Rock.
The appointments form part of a broader restructuring at Universal Music Group (UMG) that has included leadership changes at Republic and Island, as well as UMG’s US and UK operations.
