Spotify could launch an AI cover and remix tool in early 2027, potentially giving Premium subscribers a new way to create music using licensed catalogs. The feature may cost an additional $4 to $5 per month.
Universal Music, Believe/TuneCore, Kobalt and Merlin have signed related licensing deals. Sony Music, Warner Music and BMG are absent from that group, but Spotify executives have previously said the digital service provider would not need “a full catalog” to launch.
Details of the tool, including which artists might participate, remain limited. Other companies are also developing authorized generative AI music offerings: Suno and Warner Music plan to focus their partnership on artist-specific products, while all three major record companies have partnered with Klay Vision on a forthcoming platform.
Udio is preparing to relaunch with the major record companies other than Sony. The majors also have an interest in Stability AI, and Universal Music is developing artist-specific offerings through a partnership with ElevenLabs.
