New Podcast Verification and AI Policies
Changes are being made to enhance trust and clarity within the podcasting environment. The updates focus on verifying creator identities and addressing concerns related to artificial intelligence.
A new verification system, “Verified by Spotify,” is being rolled out for podcast shows. The badge, displayed as “Verified by Spotify” with a light green checkmark, will appear on show pages and in search results. This badge indicates that a show has been authenticated against established standards for authenticity and trust.
The rollout of the verification badge will begin with select shows and continue over the coming months. Initial eligibility will be based on the ability to confidently authenticate shows through available information.
The company recognizes the evolving nature of authenticity in podcasting and will continue to refine its approach.
New AI technologies present opportunities for podcast creation and discovery, but also potential for misuse, including voice misrepresentation. The platform’s policies already prohibit unauthorized impersonation, and this policy is being reaffirmed in the context of AI. Podcast shows and content that impersonate a creator or host without permission, including through AI voice cloning, will be removed.
These changes are part of a larger effort to empower creators and ensure listeners can confidently access authentic content. Further safeguards will be implemented over time.
