Spotify has introduced Running Mode, a new feature that transforms playlists into personalized running sessions based on a user’s workout goals, music taste, and tempo.
The tool is available starting today for Premium subscribers on iOS in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden. It can be accessed through the app’s Fitness Hub.
Users select from 25 curated running presets and then customize the session by choosing a workout type (such as interval, steady, or pyramid), duration, beats per minute (BPM), and preferred music style. Once started, the feature matches the beat to the selected tempo and transitions smoothly between tracks.
Optional audio cues in English provide guidance and motivation during the workout without interrupting the music.
Running Mode joins existing fitness content on the platform, including Peloton classes and creator workout videos. The company noted that fitness-related prompts have been among the most popular uses of its Prompted Playlists feature, reflecting demand for more tailored workout audio.
The feature is rolling out today for Premium iOS users in the specified markets.
