Davido has directly addressed his long-standing rivalry with Wizkid, stating that his focus is now on making good music and that division would weaken the Afrobeats movement.
In a recent interview, the 33-year-old Nigerian superstar reflected on the competitive dynamic that once defined the genre’s leading figures. He acknowledged that competition still exists but stressed that it should not come at the expense of unity.
“I’m 33 years old, I think [I’m] still competing. My head is just at making good music; whoever I make it with doesn’t matter to me. Division right now would make us weaker,” Davido said.
He noted that the Afrobeats landscape has transformed significantly over the past decade. Where African artists once competed for limited global opportunities, the genre now supports multiple international stars, backed by a vast audience, dedicated festivals, award shows, and streaming platforms.
Davido is currently promoting his sixth studio album, Oriadé, released on July 31. The project explores themes of love, family, and legacy, and features collaborations with both established and emerging artists.
