Deezer to let users hide fully AI-generated music from search

Deezer will introduce an optional search filter for fully AI-generated music in all markets before the end of 2026.

Deezer will let users hide music generated entirely by artificial intelligence (AI) from search results, giving listeners control over whether they encounter fully synthetic content. The optional filter will reach all markets before the end of 2026.

Announced in an official statement published on 13 October in Paris, the toggle will exclude songs, albums and artists associated with 100% synthetic content from search results. Users can switch it off at any time to restore access.

Listener choice and demand

The filter builds on measures Deezer has applied since 2025: detecting and labelling AI-generated music and excluding it from algorithmic and editorial recommendations. The company says these measures aim to improve transparency and reduce streaming fraud.

“The explosion of AI-generated content continues to affect the entire music ecosystem, and we believe in building a future based on transparency and choice, with respect for artists, songwriters and music fans,” said Alexis Lanternier, Deezer’s chief executive.

“We have seen clear demand from users to be able to filter out AI-generated music, and we are now giving everyone the option to remove this content entirely from their Deezer experience and focus only on human creators and creations, if they wish.”

Deezer cited research it commissioned from Ipsos and published in November 2025. The survey of 9.000 people in eight countries found that:

  • 45% of streaming service users wanted the option to filter out 100% AI-generated music.
  • 97% of participants could not distinguish AI-created songs from human-created songs in a blind listening test.

Uploads, detection and streaming fraud

Deezer receives around 90.000 fully AI-generated tracks each day. On the highest-volume days, these account for more than 50% of all tracks delivered to the service.

Between January 2025 and August 2026, its detection tool identified and excluded more than 42 million tracks from recommendations. Since June 2025, Deezer has labelled more than 14 million albums.

AI-generated music accounts for between 1% and 3% of streams on Deezer. The company estimates that up to 85% of streams those tracks received in 2025 were fraudulent and excludes fraudulent streams from royalty calculations.

Deezer’s detector identifies music created with models including Suno, Udio and Riffusion. The company has licensed the tool to other music businesses since January, with French collective management organisation Sacem as its first partner.

Other platforms’ AI policies

Other streaming services have announced their own approaches to AI-generated music:

  • TIDAL announced in June that it would label fully AI-generated music and stop paying royalties for it.
  • Qobuz introduced its own detection system in February.
  • Apple Music launched labelling in March based on disclosures from labels and distributors.
  • Spotify said it would label AI-generated artist profiles as “AI Personas” from September.

What the filter covers

Deezer’s filter applies to search and covers only music generated entirely by AI. It does not cover works that use AI for only part of the creative process.

Deezer also cited a study by CISAC and PMP Strategy, in which it participated, estimating that around 25% of creators’ income could be at risk in 2028, amounting to as much as 4.000 million euros.
