Simon Dunmore, founder of Defected Records, has acquired a majority stake in House Culture as the independent platform prepares to expand its editorial output, events and music releases.

Founded by Stephen Hedge and Richard Clark as an Instagram page in 2012, House Culture has since added a podcast, curated playlists and live events.

Dunmore brings three decades of house music industry experience. His appearance on the House Culture Podcast prompted discussions with the founders that eventually led to the acquisition.

Launched in 2019 and hosted by contributor Matt Rouse, the podcast has featured guests including Fatboy Slim, Danny Tenaglia and David Morales.

Dunmore will run the business collaboratively with Hedge, Clark, Rouse and fellow contributors Nick Gordon Brown and Steve Banks.

The company says it plans to build a broader editorial operation around its podcast and radio show, with additions including:

  • Original features
  • Video
  • A newsletter
  • An archive

Plans also cover further live events and music releases, with the stated aim of developing House Culture into a lasting resource for house music history and emerging artists.
