Materia Music is marking its 10th anniversary as Toby Fox’s Deltarune: Chapter 5 soundtrack debuts at No. 3 on the Soundtracks chart. The release extends a partnership that began with Deltarune’s first chapter in 2018.
Deltarune adds chart milestones
The Chapter 5 soundtrack, released in June, also entered Top Dance/Electronic Albums at No. 5. Its No. 3 Soundtracks debut surpassed the No. 5 peak of the Deltarune 3+4 soundtrack, which Materia Music released in 2025.
Fox also made his first appearance on a songs-based chart, with two tracks entering Hot Dance/Electronic Songs:
- “Flower Man” at No. 13.
- “Cutie Mew Mew Magic” at No. 18.
Fox first became known for Undertale. Materia Music has worked with him on music for its spiritual successor, Deltarune, since Chapter 1.
Releases beyond streaming
The Seattle-based independent label and publisher specializes in original video game music. Its releases span streaming platforms, CDs, vinyl records, sheet music and merchandise.
Sebastian Wolff, Materia Music’s chief executive officer, said the company has printed and sold more than 50,000 sheet music books. A classically trained pianist, Wolff said the books have encouraged people to play both games and instruments.
Jen Miller, the company’s consumer events coordinator, said more than 20,000 people pass its booth during a single convention. Fans who stop frequently describe their memories of game music and seek records, sheet music, shirts or live concerts as ways to reconnect with games and other listeners.
Joel Andrew, head of operations, said Materia Music has spent ten years developing the rights administration, manufacturing, distribution and reporting infrastructure needed to support game music and its creators.
The wider games market
The global games market generates $560.55 billion annually, with a forecast projecting it will reach $761.51 billion in 2026. The worldwide player population exceeds 3 billion and is expected to reach 3.7 billion by the end of 2026.
Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard exceeded the prices of major music transactions, including the acquisition of Queen’s catalog for more than $1 billion and the $1.6 billion Hipgnosis acquisition.
Materia Music focuses on music composed for games, distinct from existing recordings licensed or synchronized for titles such as GTA VI. Wolff said the company aims to extend the life of those original works while ensuring their human creators share in their success.
