Spotify today launched Fan Life, a global campaign that spotlights real music superfans and their live concert rituals. Among the featured devotees is Kye O’Hagan, a Glasgow-based superfan of the Brooklyn rock band Geese.
O’Hagan first encountered Geese in 2021 when a track from their debut album appeared in his Discover Weekly playlist. Since then, he has become an unofficial evangelist for the group, playing songs like “Taxes” and “Low Era” at his workplace and recommending them to customers. His fandom is also etched in ink: he has lyrics from the Geese song “2122” tattooed on his wrists. “A lot of my tattoos are arbitrary but the reason for this specific one…I just think it’s a truly great modern rock song,” he said.
The campaign captures the communal power of fandom. O’Hagan’s connection to the band led to a friendship after he ran into a university classmate at a Geese concert in 2023; he later began dating that friend’s roommate. “It’s funny to think without Geese I wouldn’t be as happy as I am now,” O’Hagan said. “The power of music!”
Fan Life highlights how listeners build identity around the artists they love. The campaign features O’Hagan and other superfans wearing crocheted goose beanies, alongside supporters of acts including A$AP Rocky, Rosalía, and Zara Larsson. Spotify offers tools such as Reserved for ticket access, Canvas videos, and Countdown To episodes, but the campaign focuses on the organic traditions fans create. “I loved that I became known as the Geese fan to all my friends,” O’Hagan said. “It’s always fun to be associated with something, but it’s even better when it’s a band you love.”
