SRR Capital has launched an investment model focused on songs and artists that have yet to build substantial audiences. It plans to fund releases at an earlier stage than investors buying catalogs with established royalty histories.
How the model works
SRR Capital draws on the discovery and development role of a traditional label. Its artists and repertoire (A&R) process combines creative assessment with investment committee review to identify music it believes could reach more listeners with support.
Its relatively small investments cover an artist advance, label services and a dedicated marketing and promotion budget. Net earnings are split 50/50 with the artist.
Origins and release plans
The idea grew out of Daily Samplings, founder Delgado’s music discovery platform, where he encountered songs with modest audiences. Delgado founded Sample Road Records while studying commercial music at BYU and later earned a master’s degree in Global Entertainment and Music Business at Berklee’s Valencia campus.
His label experience informed the investment approach: smaller outlays reduce the revenue a release needs to recoup its costs and become profitable. Sample Road Records is currently distributed through AWAL and has an upcoming single.
Submission terms
Artists, songwriters, producers and managers can submit music through the application on Sample Road Records’ Work With Us page. The form requests a demo link, artist and contact details, website or social links, genre and a description of what the artist seeks.
Applicants must own or control the required rights, or have authorization from the rights holders. SRR considers original music, including works in progress, and contacts applicants when it sees a potential fit. A submission does not guarantee funding or a partnership.
Information about the model is not an offer to sell securities or a solicitation to buy them. Any securities offering is made under the applicable offering documents and securities laws.
