Warner Chappell Music Mexico has promoted Carlos Ruiz to Head of Música Mexicana, a role focused on expanding the international reach of Mexican and Mexican-driven music.

Expanded role

Ruiz will be based in Mexico City and will continue to report to Gustavo Menéndez, President of US Latin & Latin America at Warner Chappell Music.

  • Grow Mexican and Mexican-driven music internationally
  • Strengthen coordination between the company’s Mexico and US operations
  • Oversee Delia Orjuela, Head of Creative for Mexican Music/Música Mexicana, who will report from Los Angeles and work with the Mexico and Miami offices

Leadership comments

Menéndez said in a statement:

“It’s no surprise that Mexican music is more popular than ever. This isn’t a trend; it’s deeply rooted in culture. Carlos’ promotion is an exciting step in bringing our teams in Mexico and the US even closer together, allowing us to continue supporting and advocating for our songwriters as one unified team. We’ve been committed to the genre for years, and today its reach continues to expand, transcending borders and connecting audiences around the world.”

Ruiz added, citing the company’s A&R (artists and repertoire) team in Mexico:

“I’m deeply grateful to work in a field I’m so passionate about, and taking on this expanded role within the company is a great responsibility. Música Mexicana has been a fundamental part of my professional career for over three decades. Today, we’re witnessing a watershed moment for the genre – driven by a talented new generation of artists, songwriters, and producers who are creating new sounds and innovative fusions. It has grown exponentially, evolving from a regional movement into a truly global phenomenon. I’m confident that with Delia’s support in the U.S. and our A&R team in Mexico, we will strengthen our presence in the genre and write many more success stories in the future.”
