YouTube has unveiled “Music Nights,” a new series of exclusive live concerts, as competition with Spotify in the live-music content space intensifies.

Spotify and YouTube Music have been expanding their rivalry beyond podcasts into exclusive live performances. Spotify recently released a concert film with Le Sserafim and is reportedly approaching music festivals for livestreaming rights, building on its established practice of hosting intimate shows for superfans and distributing recordings afterward.

YouTube described the initiative:

“Music Nights: a series of exclusive live concerts designed for dedicated fans.”

The company said it will host events in major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Paris, London, and Tokyo, as well as

“unique destinations with a special meaning to artists like New Braunfels, Texas and Asbury Park, New Jersey.”

The first performances have already been filmed and published on the artists’ official YouTube channels. Kacey Musgraves performed in New Braunfels, and Bleachers played in Asbury Park.
