Maxwell has cancelled his two upcoming South African concerts, with the event organiser attributing the decision to unforeseen circumstances beyond the artist’s control.
The American R&B singer was scheduled to perform at SunBet Arena in Pretoria on 8 August and at Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town on 11 August. Promoter Vertex Events confirmed that Maxwell’s team informed them the artist would be unable to travel to South Africa, and that attempts to reschedule the dates were unsuccessful.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I’m unfortunately no longer able to perform in South Africa as planned,” Maxwell said in a statement. “This decision wasn’t made lightly. I sincerely apologise to everyone who was looking forward to the shows. I appreciate your understanding and continued support. I hope to be back with you all soon.”
Vertex Events stated that neither party was in breach of contract and that all venue, technical and logistical preparations had been completed. The organiser added that Maxwell and his team expressed a desire to return, with discussions expected to continue around possible dates in 2027. A return later in 2026 has been ruled out.
All ticket holders will receive full refunds. Webtickets will contact purchasers directly with details on the refund process.
