Neo-soul singer Maxwell has cancelled his two scheduled South African concerts, citing circumstances beyond his control. The shows were set for 8 August at SunBet Arena in Pretoria and 11 August at Grand Arena, Grand West in Cape Town.
Promoter Vertex Events confirmed that Maxwell’s team informed them the artist could no longer perform. Both parties explored alternative options, including rescheduling dates, but no viable solution was found. The promoter stated that neither side is in breach of contract and that the decision was made professionally.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I’m unfortunately no longer able to perform in South Africa as planned. This decision wasn’t made lightly. I sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the shows. I appreciate your understanding and continued support. I hope to be back with you all soon.”
All ticket holders will receive a full refund. Ticketing platform Webtickets will contact purchasers directly with refund options.
Vertex Events said it remains hopeful that Maxwell will return to South Africa in 2027, as the artist is unable to perform in the country during 2026. The promoter added that all venue and production logistics had been finalised for the now-cancelled dates.
