Nearly all staff at music publications BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver, and Goldmine were laid off on Tuesday, August 4, after parent company Veeps gutted the outlets.

The ticketed livestream platform Veeps is owned by Joel and Benji Madden and was acquired by Live Nation in 2021. Veeps purchased the four publications around 2024–2025.

The outlets had long been known for independent, in-depth music journalism. BrooklynVegan was founded in 2004 by Dave Levine; Revolver, a hard rock and metal mainstay, launched in 2000; Goldmine has served record collectors since the mid-1970s; and Alternative Press was established in Cleveland in 1985.

Requests for comment from Live Nation and Veeps went unanswered. Emails sent to BrooklynVegan staffers, with the exception of founder Dave Levine, bounced back.
