Quiet Riot named John Torra its new lead singer on September 21, choosing the 23-year-old from more than 700 applicants. His appointment followed YouTube audition videos that attracted attention from fans and the band’s management.

Torra had been performing with bands around his home in New Jersey and building an online following through covers of hair-band and metal songs. After learning that vocalist Jizzy Pearl had left Quiet Riot, he began uploading performances of the band’s songs, including “Cum On Feel the Noize,” to audition for the opening.

Fans and Quiet Riot’s management heard a strong similarity between Torra’s voice and that of original frontman Kevin DuBrow.

Torra made his first live appearance with Quiet Riot in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, ten days after the announcement.
