Three songwriters have asked to dismiss their copyright lawsuit over BTS’s “Swim” nearly four months after filing it against Hybe and other defendants. The reason for the request is unclear, as is whether the parties reached a settlement.
Steve Cooper, Jon Sandler and Greylyn Johnson filed the suit in July, alleging that “Swim” copied elements of their unreleased 2025 demo of the same name. They requested dismissal of the entire case on Wednesday.
The defendants named in the lawsuit included Hybe, Hybe America, Big Hit Music and several songwriters, among them OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder. BTS’s members were not named.
BTS released “Swim” in March as the lead single from its comeback album ARIRANG. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Big Hit Music denied the allegations when the case was filed. Neither side responded to requests for comment on the dismissal motion. A separate copyright lawsuit involving Drake’s “Janice STFU” was withdrawn last week.
