A new publication from Routledge examines the role of sound design in electronic music over the past three decades. Sound Design and Synthesis for Electronic and Modern Music: Beyond the Drop, authored by producer and audio designer Rick Snoman, is now available.

Intended for producers and sound artists at any skill level, the book covers sound synthesis, dynamic processing, spatial and textural enhancement, and distortion. It also investigates sound behaviour and the use of modulation and movement in place of traditional chord progressions.

Snoman describes the intersection of synthesis, performance, and engineering as “the true language of electronic music.”
