Deezer has released a free AI music detection tool capable of scanning playlists across 20 major streaming platforms. The tool, available in 27 languages, identifies whether tracks were generated by artificial intelligence by detecting specific artifacts left in audio by generative software.

Internal research cited by the company found that 43% of users joining Deezer from other services already had AI-generated music in their playlists, while 80% expressed a preference for such content to be clearly labelled. The detection system claims an accuracy rate exceeding 99%.

Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer, said: “By detecting and tagging AI-generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming. No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use.”

Lanternier added: “A vast majority of people want to know if AI music is being recommended to them and our data show that nearly half of the users joining Deezer from another platform have AI tracks in their playlists. We’re expecting our AI music detector to be an eye-opening experience for listeners around the world.”

The tool is built on Deezer’s existing technology, which the platform already uses to identify AI-generated music on its own service. Last month, Deezer disclosed that AI music accounts for 44% of uploads to the platform. In January, the company demonetised up to 85% of AI-generated streams.
