IMPALA has published a new report in its One Step Ahead series, focusing on the short-form video market and the emergence of a “moment economy” in music.
The report, The Short Form Video Market and the Moment Economy, examines how platforms built around short-form video are reshaping music discovery, audience engagement, and monetisation. It analyses the opportunities and challenges these shifts create for independent music companies, including impacts on artist development, fan engagement, rights management, and revenue generation. The concept of a “moment economy” is explored, where cultural moments can trigger rapid spikes in attention and consumption.
The report is available to IMPALA members through the Members Only Resources section of the organisation’s website.
About IMPALA
IMPALA was established in 2000 and now represents over 6,000 independent music companies across Europe. Its membership includes small, micro, and medium-sized enterprises as well as self-releasing artists, who together account for 99% of Europe’s music companies. These independents produce more than 80% of all new releases and 80% of the sector’s jobs.
IMPALA’s mission is to grow the independent music sector sustainably, return more value to artists, promote diversity and entrepreneurship, improve political access, inspire change, and increase access to finance. In 2025, IMPALA began a new co-funded work programme as an EU cultural network. The organisation also runs award schemes and a strategic partnership programme, Friends of IMPALA. This year, IMPALA is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a series of interviews, Faces of the Independent Sector, and other features.
