Vi (Vodafone Idea) has struck a partnership with Spotify that gives eligible mobile subscribers three months of free access to the digital service provider’s (DSP) Premium Standard tier. The offer, available to Vi individual and family plan customers who have not previously used Spotify, marks what Spotify India managing director Amarjit Batra called “our first-of-its-kind telco partnership in India.”
Subscribers can activate the complimentary plan through the Vi app. The Premium Standard tier includes:
- Ad-free listening with full control over playback
- Offline downloads
- Higher audio quality up to 320 kbps
After the three-month period, users can continue the plan at its standard market rate of Rs139 ($0.145) per month via Vi’s ‘Add to Bill’ facility.
Vi previously ran a similar collaboration with local streaming service Hungama Music in December 2021; that platform shut down in April 2025. In August 2024, rival operator Airtel migrated premium users of its Wynk Music service to Apple Music when Wynk ceased operations. Such deals give audio over-the-top platforms direct access to the large subscriber bases of India’s telecom operators.
