Sony Music Publishing (SMP) has appointed Luis Pinilla as Senior Vice President, Global Head of Strategy, a role in which he will lead growth initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies including artificial intelligence.
Pinilla, who will continue to be based in New York, reports directly to SMP Chairman and CEO Jon Platt. He will work with the publisher’s global teams to create new opportunities and build on the value of its songwriting roster.
His remit includes a specific focus on AI and other frontier technologies. Pinilla has spent more than 14 years at SMP and its predecessor EMI Music Publishing, most recently serving as SVP of Corporate Strategy & Financial Planning.
“Luis brings deep insight and a forward-looking perspective to everything he does, and I am confident he will excel in this role,” Platt said. “I am pleased to be continuing our work together as we invest in the growth of SMP’s songwriters and composers around the world.”
“I’m honored to take on this role and grateful to Jon for his continued trust and leadership,” Pinilla said. “Sony Music Publishing is well positioned at a moment of significant transformation in our industry. I am excited to work with our global team to build on our momentum and further strengthen our commitment to delivering enduring value for our songwriters.”
