Nigerian Afropop act Taves has unveiled his latest project, the eight-track EP ‘Popstar SIDE A’, building on a year of growing visibility for the Lagos-based singer.
The release follows two singles: ‘Uche Jombo’, a reimagining of Wizkid’s ‘Don’t Dull’, and the reflective track ‘Isn’t It Beautiful’. Both helped set the stage for the full EP, which delves into themes of romance, pressure, faith and self-exploration.
Production across the project is handled by Arieenati, Spax, OG Sterling and Samklef, with Wizkid receiving an additional composition credit on ‘Uche Jombo’. The tracklist includes ‘Chaos’, which examines the friction between love and career ambition, alongside ‘Simone’, ‘Deliver Me’, ‘Preaching’, ‘Space’ and ‘Take Me Away’.
Taves has been active since 2019, fusing Afrobeats, R&B and alternative pop. His 2024 release Are You Listening? earned recognition from Apple Music, Billboard and The Headies, and he has collaborated with Show Dem Camp, BNXN, Ladipoe and L.A.X.
On Popstar SIDE A, Taves draws from personal experience to navigate desire, connection and growth, offering a more introspective dimension while preserving the accessible sound that has defined his career so far.
