The biopic Snoop, centered on the life of rapper and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg, will open in theaters on Friday, August 6, 2027. Jonathan Daviss, known for the series ‘Outer Banks,’ will star in the title role.
The film is the first production under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment. Universal describes the project as the “definitive biopic of the artist, mogul and icon of gangsta rap.”
Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Song Sung Blue) will direct from his rewrite of an original screenplay by Joe Robert Cole.
Producers include Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment, Snoop Dogg, and Death Row Pictures President Sara Ramaker. The film will feature music from Snoop Dogg’s catalog.
Recent music biopics have drawn large audiences. Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, surpassed $1 billion in global ticket sales, a first for the genre. Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) earned $910.8 million worldwide, while Straight Outta Compton (2015) grossed $201.6 million.
