Bonobo has issued two new singles, ‘Fire on the Water’ featuring Pakistani-American artist Arooj Aftab and ‘Drift’, both set to appear on his next album.
New singles and album details
The album, ‘Distance In Static’, will be released on 11 September via Ninja Tune. It also includes collaborations with Joy Crookes, Nilüfer Yanya, Nicole Miglis, Ichiko Aoba and Aanya Martin.
Recording at Broken Arrow Ranch
‘Fire on the Water’ was recorded at Neil Young’s Broken Arrow Ranch in California, where Bonobo (Simon Green) spent several weeks working on the album. Green invited Aftab from her home in New York to collaborate on the track, which began as a simple guitar loop he captured while testing equipment.
“When that song happened, that’s when I could first see an album coming into shape,” Green said. “We were both like, ‘Oh, this is really special’.”
Aftab added: “I had the dreamiest time making this song with Simon in the Redwoods. He is a boyish joy and a beautiful soul. The lyrics, written by my dear friend Yasra Rizvi, live in that tender place where time keeps moving but desire remains. There can still be fire on the water.”
North American live shows
In support of the album, Bonobo has announced a series of North American live dates, including Dallas, Los Angeles and Portland, with further shows expected shortly.
