Indonesia has blocked 13 stream ripping sites in the country’s first enforcement action against such services, coordinated by IFPI, the organisation representing the recorded music industry worldwide, and its local national group ASIRI (Music Recording Industry Alliance of Indonesia).
The blocked domains collectively received more than half a billion visits from users in Indonesia last year.
IFPI and ASIRI thanked the Directorate General of Intellectual Property and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs for acting promptly on the blocking application, which led internet service providers to quickly restrict access to the sites. The organisations expressed hope for continued collaboration to combat high piracy levels, which they say undermine the development of licensed services that pay royalties to right holders.
The action supports IFPI’s global effort to tackle stream ripping. Stream ripping sites have now been blocked in 17 countries.
IFPI represents more than 8,000 record company members globally. ASIRI serves as its national group in Indonesia, representing record companies located in the country.
