Sunset Music Series Returns to Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden for 2026

The Sunset Music Series has commenced its 2026 season, hosting outdoor concerts at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Johannesburg.

The series began on May 10 with a performance by Jeremy Loops and will continue with performances by South African artists during the winter months.

Scheduled performances include Lloyiso on May 31, a concert featuring Matthew Mole and Will Linley on June 14, and a show with Spoegwolf and Francois van Coke on June 28.

Organisers have indicated the 2026 programme will be divided into Autumn and Spring editions, with further artist announcements planned.

Damon Forbes of BreakOut Events stated the location is a significant factor in the series’ popularity. “There’s something truly special about experiencing live music outdoors with friends surrounded by nature, especially in a setting as iconic as the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden,” he said. “This year we have two seasons – an Autumn and Spring series – and for the Autumn series we’ve curated a set of shows featuring some of South Africa’s top artists. We can’t wait to welcome audiences back for another unforgettable Sunset Music Series.”

Concerts are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with gates opening at 1 p.m. Attendees may bring picnic baskets and food; on-site bars and refreshments will also be available. Outside beverages are not permitted. Camp chairs and picnic blankets are allowed.

Tickets begin at R195, excluding booking fees, and organisers report high demand for the 2026 season. Early ticket purchases are recommended due to limited availability.

All scheduled performances will take place at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, located in Roodepoort.

The series’ success highlights how music technology is reshaping Nigeria’s creative economy and similar scenes across Africa.
