YouTube Music is adding labels to identify tracks made primarily with generative artificial intelligence (AI), responding to listeners’ requests for clearer information about how music is created.
The platform announced the change in a blog post, saying the labels will identify tracks “created primarily using generative AI.”
Its example of music that would receive a label involves “using a generative model to create the composition and vocals”.
YouTube Music attributed the move to user feedback, saying “our listeners have told us they want transparency when they’re hearing an AI-generated track”.
Deezer also cited listener preferences when announcing its AI-toggle feature a day earlier. Its in-house study found “that nearly half of music streaming users would like to filter out fully AI-generated music.”
The labels will also be introduced in the main YouTube app. The service did not provide a specific timetable for that expansion.
