Kemuel has released his second EP, Borokiri Boy, continuing a shift toward house and electronic production while keeping R&B vocal and lyrical elements at the center.
The project follows his emergence in 2023 with co-signs from Olamide and Spinall. His debut EP combined EDM and R&B, and he has since attended social events with Wizkid.
Track Details
- Seki: Opens with minimal but groovy percussion, with backing vocals responding in the chorus, as Kemuel asks a lover for a long-term commitment.
- Osei Baby: Uses a similar production template but replaces warm piano notes with guitar riffs, while minimal choral vocals sit underneath. The lyrics describe a woman seeking a no-strings night.
- Close 2 U: Moves into house territory with intermittent claps, sparse log drums, and three-step kicks. Kemuel sings about holding onto memories of a romantic encounter.
- YOLO: A stripped-back follow-up to Close 2 U, built on a minimalist beat with pulsating electric piano keys. The lyrics focus on living in the moment.
- FINI: Introduces gongs as beat patterns and subtle rattles as shakers. Kemuel uses varied vocal inflections and lamba allegories while recounting a raunchy encounter.
- Wound Me: Draws on 2000s Nigerian R&B with classical strings and a traditional song structure.
- Pitakwa Girls Riddim: A pop track with conventional production that does not introduce new sonic elements compared with the rest of the EP.
- Spirit: Returns to the house-influenced pulse of the first half while adding a stronger soul element, closing the project.
Production Approach
Across the eight tracks, Kemuel pairs soulful vocals and romantic themes with house and electronic production. The EP moves from minimal percussion and guitar-led arrangements into deeper house rhythms, then shifts toward indigenous percussion and 2000s R&B before returning to a house and soul blend on the final track.
