Hook, a platform that lets fans remix licensed music into shareable vertical videos, has selected MusicInfra to handle licensing and rightsholder payments.

MusicInfra will manage Hook’s licensed rights and royalty administration as the platform expands its features and catalog.

Rights and royalty administration

MusicInfra’s services for Hook include:

  • multi-rightsholder clearance across composition and master rights
  • publisher-level clearance visibility across territories
  • DDEX (Digital Data Exchange)-compliant reporting
  • a real-time rightsholder dashboard with catalog details, usage data, and earned royalties on an ongoing basis

MusicInfra will also process rightsholder payments on behalf of Hook.

Universal Music Group licensing

The partnership follows Hook’s licensing agreement with Universal Music Group (UMG). Under that deal, Hook users can create and share content using official recordings from participating UMG artists.

Gaurav Sharma, Founder and CEO of Hook, said:

“Music is becoming social, where people don’t just listen, they want to participate in and express themselves through the music they love, yet it’s been hard for ordinary music fans to get into it and virtually impossible for music platforms to convince rightsholders to license for it. Hook has unlocked these rights and as we grow, we need a reliable yet agile rights administration and licensing backend to implement our innovative deals with rightsholders. MusicInfra have proven they know how to navigate new uses and complex licensing scenarios.”
