GoDigital Music has moved to establish a larger presence in the Asia-Pacific region, appointing Sebastian Mair as President of Asia-Pacific (APAC) and signing a partnership with Japanese entertainment company Pony Canyon.

The Los Angeles-based company, which provides label services, distribution and publishing, said Mair will lead strategic and commercial operations across the region.

APAC leadership

Mair previously held roles at Live Nation Japan and Ubisoft, companies with established operations in Asia-Pacific.

His remit includes managing joint ventures, minority investments and distribution partnerships, expanding catalogue acquisition and rights monetisation opportunities, and developing new artist initiatives tailored to individual markets.

Pony Canyon agreement

The agreement with Pony Canyon runs through GoDigital’s AdShare division. AdShare will oversee YouTube monetization and intellectual property (IP) rights for Pony Canyon’s catalogue on the video platform.

AdShare identifies and monetizes music in user-generated content (UGC) uploads on YouTube. Pony Canyon operates across music production and distribution, film, home video, anime and video games.

Jason Peterson, Founder and Chairman of GoDigital Music, said:

“We’re thrilled to have Sebastian join GoDigital Music and lead our efforts across APAC. Sebastian brings a deep understanding of the market and strong relationships across the industry. Our partnership with Pony Canyon is a great place to start, and we see a tremendous opportunity to bring the technology, services and expertise we’ve built at GoDigital Music to more artists, labels and rights-holders throughout the region.”
