SoundExchange has appointed Paul Shaver as Senior Vice President, Business Development, putting him in charge of identifying growth opportunities, expanding partnerships and helping shape its technology strategy.
Announced in Washington, D.C., on October 1, 2026, the appointment brings Shaver onto the executive team, reporting to President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Huppe.
Growth and technology responsibilities
Shaver will develop partnerships and pursue opportunities to broaden SoundExchange’s activities across the music industry. His remit also includes helping define its approach to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
The role includes preparing the organization to meet the future needs of creators and rights owners as technology changes how music is created, distributed and monetized.
Publishing, rights and recorded music experience
Shaver brings more than three decades of experience spanning music publishing, recorded music, rights administration, data services and technology.
He joins from the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA), where he served as President of both CMRRA and SX Works.
During his tenure, CMRRA increased royalty distributions to clients, grew its global publisher affiliations and extended its international reach through SX Works.
His work also included expanding global client relationships and strengthening data and administration capabilities for music publishers and songwriters.
Before joining CMRRA, Shaver held senior leadership positions at:
- Nielsen Entertainment
- Universal Music Group
- EMI/Capitol Music
- Virgin Records
He has also held industry leadership roles with the Canadian Country Music Association and the Canadian Private Copying Collective.
