Sony Music and Universal Music Group want a Boston federal court to compel Suno investor Lightspeed to testify, extending their pursuit of evidence in the copyright case to the startup’s backer.
In an October 13 filing, the labels opposed the venture capital firm’s motion to quash their subpoena. They are seeking testimony about what Lightspeed knew of legal risks associated with training data.
The request forms part of the major labels’ litigation against Suno, an artificial intelligence (AI) music startup, over the use of copyrighted recordings to train AI models.
