AI Integration in Music Creation Increasing
A study conducted by Berklee College of Music revealed that 33% of artists are employing AI for inspiration, with over 25% utilizing the technology to develop backing tracks. The findings are based on a survey of more than 1,000 music industry professionals.
The survey indicated that 18% of respondents incorporate AI tools into their creative workflows but do not include AI-generated audio in their finished recordings.
Among artists in the early stages of their careers, 56% reported using AI in some capacity. This figure rose to 92% for those working as full-time creators.
Mark Ethier, Executive Director of the Berklee Emerging Artistic Technology Lab, stated: “Had we done this study 18 months ago, these numbers would have been a lot lower, and from that perspective it’s pretty shocking.”
Jim Lucchese, President of Berklee, commented: “We’re seeing a high level of individual creative agency in how differently AI can be used, from a composition tool to just pushing your skills.”
The implications of this trend are significant, particularly for independent artists navigating copyright and ownership. Who owns a song in the age of AI is a question that continues to be debated.
