Spotify to Introduce AI Persona Badge for AI-Generated Artists

Spotify is rolling out an ‘AI persona’ badge to label artist profiles it identifies as AI-generated, a move aimed at increasing transparency between artists and fans.

Spotify will begin applying an AI persona badge to artist profiles it identifies as AI-generated starting in mid-September, a step the company says will strengthen trust as synthetic content becomes harder to distinguish from human-made work.

The label will appear on artist profiles, in search results, and alongside tracks in playlists. Spotify described the move as part of a broader effort to make artist identity and authenticity a priority, following earlier launches of features such as Verified by Spotify, SongDNA, AI Credits, and Artist Profile Protection.

“True artist-fan connection can only be built on a foundation of trust and authenticity,” the company stated. “Today, we’re announcing another step in our effort to ensure Spotify is the most transparent and trustworthy place to listen to music.”

The badges will rely on information provided by artists as well as Spotify’s own internal reviews. On 11 August, the platform opened a page where artists can disclose that their profile represents an AI persona, while confirming that Spotify will also proactively identify profiles that appear to be AI-generated. Artists who believe their profile has been incorrectly labelled will have the option to self-disclose or appeal the decision.

The labelling arrives amid wider industry efforts to address the growing volume of AI-generated music. Spotify removed 75 million AI-generated “spam” tracks from its platform last year, and services including Deezer, TIDAL and Traxsource have recently introduced their own measures to identify or restrict such content.
