A new interactive directory, the Community Radio Index, has launched to map and connect listeners with independent, community-run radio stations across the globe. Created by Opium Hum and Robbie Makes Radio, the resource currently lists nearly 300 stations.

“To our knowledge it’s the first centralized effort to document a majority of the world’s operating online community radio stations in a single resource,” the team said. “Community radio sits at the intersection of culture work and grassroots activism, and in a time when more and more of our cultural life is threatened by algorithmic monoculture, this work feels increasingly urgent.”

Global Directory

The index includes prominent broadcasters such as:

  • NTS
  • Refuge Worldwide
  • Radio Alhara
  • Intergalactic FM
  • DUBLAB
  • Noods
  • Seoul Community Radio
  • Dublin Digital Radio (DDR)
  • Oroko Radio

Each listing provides a direct link to the station’s website, allowing users to browse by region on the interactive map.

Recent Station Developments

Several listed stations have recently expanded their offerings. NTS launched a new player that enables streaming to any hi-fi system. The Lot introduced a redesigned website with on-demand playback and resident archives. Voices Radio announced it is opening a new studio in East London.

The Cause revealed plans for New Frequency, a one-day community radio festival on 25th July. The multi-stage event will feature collaborations with stations including Refuge Worldwide, Seoul Community Radio, Radio Alhara, Potato Head x Head Stream, Keep Hush, and Voices.
