A-Tempo, an independent full-service music publisher founded in Prague in 1993, operates across Central and Eastern Europe with direct memberships in four collecting societies and an international sub-publishing catalogue of roughly two million titles. The company was established by Petr Bělohlávek as the first independent music publisher serving the former Czechoslovak market.
Regional structure and society memberships
Founded as a joint venture with an Austrian publisher, A-Tempo has been an independent, privately owned Czech company since 1997 under Bělohlávek’s leadership. Its headquarters are in Prague, with a branch office in Bratislava for the Slovak market and a presence in Kitzbühel supporting activities and a local catalogue in Austria.
The company is a direct member of the Czech collecting society OSA, the Slovak society SOZA, the Hungarian society Artisjus and the Austrian society AKM/Austro Mechana. It is represented through local societies in Poland and the countries of the former Yugoslavia. In neighbouring rights, A-Tempo is a member of Intergram in Czechia and Slovgram in Slovakia.
Catalogue and licensing
A-Tempo works across the full musical spectrum. Its catalogues include:
- classical music
- traditional brass-band compositions
- pop
- film music
- electronic music
- hip-hop and rap
The local commercial catalogue covers works by Czech, Slovak and Austrian composers, while the international sub-publishing business represents numerous foreign catalogues comprising approximately two million titles.
Synchronization licensing for advertising, film, television and theatre is handled daily by a specialist team. The team draws on both international and local catalogues and works with producers, agencies and other creative partners to clear music for projects.
Since the 1990s, A-Tempo has been active in production music, representing a range of international music-library catalogues. The company also owns the All Music Gallery production music library, which focuses on classical music and contains approximately 5,000 titles, including well-known classical compositions recorded by established artists and orchestras.
Leadership and recognition
Jitka Bělohlávková, A-Tempo’s General Manager, serves on the boards of both OSA and SOZA. Her board roles involve discussions on authors, publishers and collective rights management in the region.
The Czech collecting society OSA has recognized A-Tempo multiple times. Over the past 15 years, the company has received the Most Successful Publisher of the Year award six times, including for 2023 and 2024. In 2025, it was ranked among OSA’s three most successful publishers.
