ArtMaster, a Prague-based music instruction startup, has secured $2.4 million in seed funding to develop artificial intelligence (AI) models that help people learn instruments independently.

The company also plans to move into other areas of AI-based learning.

Practice guidance and personalised feedback

Founded by Radim Vysoký and Michal Novák, ArtMaster grew from Vysoký’s frustration with learning piano. It pairs game mechanics similar to Guitar Hero with instruction on real instruments.

The addition of AI allows the platform to offer personalised feedback intended to resemble guidance from a live teacher.

“Beginners often make six mistakes at once and don’t know which to start with. Even the best video can’t give that kind of help. So we built an app that structures practice and helps people reach their goals,” Vysoký explains.

The app is currently available in English and targets a global audience. It has recorded 500,000 downloads, while its social media videos have attracted more than 100 million views.

Vysoký draws a comparison with Duolingo, which divides language learning into short daily lessons to make it accessible. He sees ArtMaster following the same principle as interest in online self-education grows.

ArtMaster says its most active 10% of users spend an average of 36 minutes in lessons.
