Johannesburg singer-songwriter Brandon Aura has released a new single, “Run Boy,” a folk and alternative pop track that explores themes of perseverance and hope.
Often referred to as “The Folk Kid,” Aura has built a reputation for personal, narrative-driven songwriting. “Run Boy” originated from a phrase that lingered from his childhood, later evolving into a meditation on resilience.
“‘Run Boy’ started with two words that never really left me,” Aura said. “As I grew older, I realized they represented something much bigger than the memories they came from. This song is about choosing to keep going even when everything tells you to stop.”
The track pairs intimate storytelling with atmospheric production, building into an uplifting arrangement. It addresses self-doubt, heartbreak, and change, framing progress as a quiet decision to take the next step.
“My songwriting usually begins with a feeling or a phrase,” he explained. “I don’t try to force a story. I follow where the emotion leads me and trust that it will connect with someone who needs to hear it.”
