South African singer-songwriter Yandani has released his debut EP, “About You,” a six-track project that merges contemporary R&B and pop. The EP examines the emotional layers of young love, from devotion and desire to heartbreak and self-worth.
Yandani, who has amassed over one million followers on TikTok through covers and original content, recorded the EP over two years in London, Durban, and Cape Town. He worked with collaborators Stephen Barnes and Sacha Skarbek to shape the project’s sound.
Songwriting and Emotional Range
“I’d describe the sound as the perfect mix of R&B and Pop,” Yandani said. “I wanted the music to feel emotional and relatable, but still uplifting. Even when the songs deal with difficult situations, there’s always a feeling of confidence underneath everything.”
The EP does not follow a single narrative. Instead, each track captures a different stage of young love and relationships, moving through infatuation, uncertainty, healing, and self-acceptance.
“The project is really about young love and all the emotions that come with it,” Yandani explained. “Relationships, situationships, heartbreak, confidence and everything in between inspired these songs. I wanted each track to capture a different feeling that people can relate to.”
Yandani described his songwriting process as instinctive, beginning with a beat and building melodies with Barnes and Skarbek. “What I wrote about always depended on how the beat made me feel,” he said.
“I hope people hear something they recognize in themselves,” he added. “Whether they’re in love, heartbroken or just trying to find confidence again, I want the music to remind them that it’s okay to feel everything and still know your worth.”

- “About You” – A heartfelt song about falling deeply for someone, written for “lover girls and lover boys” to relate to or sing to their partners.
- “Touch” – Explores being so in love that you lose control, willing to drop everything for someone even when they play games with your feelings.
- “Undecided” – Captures the uncertainty of whether to give someone a chance, while the other person is overly confident they already have you.
- “Forget” – The realization that you cannot change a person no matter how much love you give, and deciding to stop wasting energy on someone who doesn’t treat you well.
- “Room 212” – A song about escaping the crowd with someone who makes you feel at ease, a private space where the world fades and you can be real.
- “Honeydew” – A track centered on confidence and self-assurance.
