Dan Nevin has been appointed Vice President, Industry Relations at the independent music licensing organization that represents approximately 15% of the global recorded music market.

The newly created role is part of a broader strategy to deepen engagement with independent trade associations and strategic partners worldwide, while supporting membership growth and diversification across Asia, Africa, Oceania and other emerging music markets.

Role and responsibilities

Nevin reports to CEO Charlie Lexton and works closely with the executive leadership team. His remit includes oversight of several flagship strategic initiatives, including the global trade association sponsorship programme and an executive development programme now in its fourth year that supports emerging female leaders across the independent music sector through mentoring, education and peer collaboration.

His responsibilities include:

  • Leading engagement with independent trade associations and strategic partners worldwide
  • Working with the Global Membership Development team on expanding presence across emerging markets
  • Supporting targeted membership acquisition and engagement strategies
  • Developing initiatives that help emerging independent businesses build capabilities for the global licensing network

Executive comment

Lexton said the independent sector has never been more globally connected, and the organization has an important role in helping members succeed in that environment. He added that building stronger relationships around the world is essential to ensuring independent voices are represented wherever the future of music is being shaped, and that Nevin is uniquely qualified for the work because of his integrity and commitment to independent music.

Nevin said he has been connected to the organization since its early days and has long admired its work delivering value for members and the independent sector. He said he is excited to work closely with members, industry partners and colleagues to strengthen connections, support the continued growth of independent businesses worldwide and develop initiatives that create meaningful value for current members and the next generation of independent rightsholders.

Background

Nevin has spent more than two decades in the independent music sector. He began his career managing an independent record store, then spent more than a decade at one of Australia’s leading independent record companies. He later held senior roles in digital music and streaming before becoming CEO of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR), where he championed Australia’s independent recorded music community.

Since relocating to London in 2016, he has worked with music companies, labels and distributors as a consultant and adviser.

The appointment reinforces the organization’s long-term commitment to ensuring the world’s leading independent music companies benefit from stronger representation, broader commercial opportunities and deeper collaboration across the global digital music marketplace.
