A documentary about Gorillaz‘ first-ever stadium concert is in production, capturing the band’s June 20 performance at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before a crowd of 70,000.

Founding member and visual artist Jamie Hewlett led a camera crew that filmed across the venue, documenting the full live set fronted by Damon Albarn as well as backstage and crowd moments. The film is expected to blend live footage with appearances from the group’s animated members: 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel.

“The aim is to reveal what it takes to put on a show like this,” Hewlett said. “We have artists filming themselves getting on planes from different parts of the world, then everybody coming together here in Tottenham, the arrival of the fans, the Gorillaz show, and the aftermath, when there’s only empty beer cups left.”

The concert featured a lineup of guest performers:

  • Johnny Marr
  • Shaun Ryder
  • Little Simz
  • Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def)
  • Kano
  • Bashy
  • Omar Souleyman
  • Lao

Trueno and Sparks provided support ahead of the headliners.

The show followed the February release of Gorillaz’ ninth studio album, The Mountain. The 31-track setlist drew from the new record and included hits like ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’, ‘Dirty Harry’, ‘Rhinestone Eyes’ and ‘Clint Eastwood’.
