Sonilo has partnered with Musical AI to track how licensed recordings and compositions contribute to music generated by artificial intelligence (AI). The data is intended to help licensing partners account for usage and support payments to creators and rightsholders.

Sonilo generates music and sound effects from video footage, text or a combination of the two, using models built with licensed source material. Musical AI will analyze the resulting audio to measure the contribution of individual recordings and compositions.

Sonilo’s licensing partners will receive that information to support attribution and compensation for the songwriters, artists and rightsholders whose music contributed to the outputs.

Sean Power, chief executive of Musical AI, said:

“AI music has enormous potential, but that potential depends on building a system that respects the creators behind it. Sonilo recognizes that licensing is only part of the equation. Rightsholders also need visibility into how their work contributes to generated music. Together, we’re helping demonstrate how attribution can support a more transparent and sustainable model for the industry.”
