Spotify Report Details Independent Artist Revenue and Stream Growth

Spotify’s annual report indicates increasing revenue and stream counts for independent artists on the platform.

Independent Artist Revenue on the Rise

Spotify’s yearly report reviewing economic trends on the platform showed growth in royalty payments, fan engagement, and artist career development.

More than one-third of artists earning $10,000 or more in Spotify royalties in the past year released music independently, or began their careers doing so, utilizing independent distributors.

In 2025, the artist ranked 100,000th in earnings generated over $7,300 in royalties from Spotify. In 2015, an artist at that same ranking earned $350. This represents a more than twentyfold increase in royalty earnings over a decade.

Spotify data indicated that over 90% of DIY royalties in 2025 were paid to artists who had been releasing music on the platform for more than one year, suggesting consistent releases are increasingly rewarded.

By mid-2025, Spotify facilitated over $1 billion in gross concert ticket sales, a figure that has since risen to over $1.5 billion. The platform actively directs fans to nearby concert listings based on their listening habits. This is similar to the deeper integration seen with TikTok and Apple Music.

Spotify also recently announced that they are looking into AI derivatives as a new revenue stream for artists.
