The Chainsmokers have left Disruptor Records after 11 years and will release “BABY,” their first single as independent artists, on Friday, October 16.

The duo, comprising Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, announced their label departure this week. They also ended their working relationship with longtime manager Adam Alpert last year.

Departure from Disruptor

Taggart and Pall signed with Disruptor in 2015, when Alpert established the imprint through a joint venture with Sony. Disruptor operates under Columbia.

In their statement announcing the departure, the duo thanked their label team and outlined their plans to experiment with future releases:

“After 11 amazing years, we are now independent artists. We are eternally grateful to our incredible team at Columbia/Distruptor for a decade plus of hard work that has resulted in unimaginable success.

We have no idea what to expect for our next chapter but we are extremely excited to have fun and experiment with all our new music releases. Thank you for sticking with us fam 💚 we know we owe you some records!”

First independent single

The duo announced “BABY” on October 14, setting its release for two days later.

Announcing the track on Instagram, they wrote: “A new chapter begins. BABY. Out Friday. Let’s turn this thing on.”
